Powder Mill Counseling Services offers a variety of psychotherapeutic and psychoeducational services for individuals 21 years of age and older. Payment for services can be submitted through several insurance plans including, but not limited to, Aetna, Magellan, most Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans, UHC, MAMSI, and APS. Powder Mill Counseling Services also offers services on a sliding scale fee for persons without insurance and students on a limited basis. Some of the services provided includes:
  1. Short/Long-term Counseling
    Short-/Long-term counseling is available for individuals and couples. The service involves having a clinical interview to obtain relevant information regarding treatment issues. Short-term counseling may range from 6-12 sessions. Long-term counseling can range from a few to several months.
  2. Mental Health Screening
    A mental health screening is a quick, efficient way of determining whether a person has a problem that requires a more intensive evaluation or treatment. Screenings cannot be used to make a diagnosis. Some screenings offered are for depression, alcohol use disorder, and low self-esteem.
  3. Outreach Presentations
    Presentations on various topics are offered to agencies, groups, and colleges as part of prevention efforts to address specific public health issues. Some topics covered are Stress Management, Time Management, and Alcohol/Drug Education. Outreach opportunities are provided by request.
  4. Referral to Community Resources
    Referrals to community resources, specifically for mental health issues and related concerns, are available upon request. Requests can be made by calling the main office number.
  5. Consultation
    Consultation is available for healthcare/social work professionals with questions regarding psychological concerns of their clients. A fee is applied in some consultations situations. For additional information, please call the main office number.
  6. Crisis Intervention
    A "crisis" is a situation in which a person feels overwhelmed by sudden and immediate stressors and is having problems coping effectively. Please note that persons who are suicidal/ homicidal would NOT be appropriate for this service, and should go to the nearest emergency room for assistance.
